About Us
Spirit of Life Unitarian Universalists is a covenantal spiritual community that offers and encourages diversity of thought, freedom of expression, and support for each individual's personal religious journey. We provide a safe loving environment, with professional leaders to help guide you along your chosen spiritual path. We are members of The Unitarian Universalist Association, a religion without creed or dogma, i.e. a religion that allows us the freedom to discuss and debate theological, religious and philosophical issues, instead of simply telling us the answers. In this non-judgmental atmosphere we can seek basic truths that support and enrich our lives. We are a religiously diverse community and eager to welcome people of good will regardless of race, ethnic origin, sexual orientation or religious background. Our time together is comfortable, not demanding, and we often share food, ceremonies, humor, and life passages as we learn from and support each other in our personal spiritual pursuits. We listen; we laugh; we learn; we pray; we sing; we work for social justice; we make friends; and we share each other's joys and sorrows. As a covenantal congregation we strive to accomplish the following: to treat each other with respect; to be inclusive, not exclusive; to be nonjudgmental; to communicate honestly and openly; to seek and appreciate the good in each other; to be attentive and participatory while we are together; and to engage in deep dialog, listening fully, not just simply waiting for our turn to speak. We each bring to the community our personal experiences, ideas, perspectives, opinions, and points of view. When appropriate, we share the experience that comes from our own diverse backgrounds and our knowledge of other religions and cultures. This we do with caring and respect, employing not only our unique gifts, but our sense of humor as well. In return for this openness and caring, we receive from our fellow congregants and our professional leadership a more fully developed sense of our own spirituality; a mindfulness of what in life holds value and importance; and an ever-increasing open-mindedness to others. As we grow and mature spiritually, we acknowledge and appreciate the thoughts and ideas we have learned from each other, gaining an ever-growing sense of belonging, from which we draw strength and fond memories of the times we have shared together. At Spirit of Life, we especially value our children. We cherish them as unique individuals whose spiritual maturation has been placed in our hands, and we lovingly include them in all our congregational activities. Because we understand that they represent not only the future of our community, but of the world, we seek and heed their unique council in all phases of our planning for the future. We invite you to join us in our quest for a better understanding of life's great mysteries, and we offer our help and support for your own personal spiritual journey.
